A walking tour of the historic Phillips gristmill site will be offered on Sunday, June 8 at 1:00pm. The mill dates to the late 1700s and served the farmers of Pleasant Valley into the mid-19th century. Visitors will see archaeological evidence of the mill as they walk along a new interpretive trail built by Eagle Scout Eric Del Grande of Lawrenceville. The half mile tour includes stops at the gristmill site, mill pond, dam, sleuce, and tail race. Following the tour, hikers are invited to enjoy lemonade and cookies across the road from the mill at the nearby Major Henry Phillips house. Here, farm historian Larry Kidder will answer questions about the Howell Farm, the Pleasant Valley Rural Historic District, and the Mercer County Park Commission's plans to preserve historic Pleasant Valley. |
